When to Use Pipe Coils and When to Use Straight Pipe Sticks

Preferences varies when it comes to choosing between straight pipes and pipe coils. Some find pipe sticks easier to handle on site, while others prefer coils and having joint-less pipe runs. To a large extent it is a matter of taste, but in most cases a combination of the two is the absolute ideal.

Using Straight Pipe Sticks

The straight pipes should be the first choice whenever the straightness benefits the installation. Here are a few examples!

In between dispensers in pressure systems

9 times out of 10, dispensers are placed on line and at a straight angle to each other. The distance in between is almost always shorter than the 5.8 m pipe stick so no joints will be necessary outside of dispenser sumps anyway.

Riser pipes

Riser pipes always need to be straight, making straight pipe sticks the obvious choice, regardless of what type of pipe is used for the product lines.

Manifolded VR lines

Even if coils are used for product lines in a suction system, the vapor recovery lines are almost always manifolded and installing tee fittings is easier on absolutely straight pipes.
