Midland Manufacturing has been busy this year supporting The Chlorine Institute and TRANSCAER's Rail Safety & Hazmat Emergency Response Training at stops across the United States.
At each stop, Midland hosts an Emergency Response Kit (ERK) workshop where they share insight on potential leak scenarios and how to mitigate those leaks. Additionally, Midland demonstrates how to install its ERK on a typical flammable gas assembly.
At each Safety Train stop, Midland’s ERK workshop is accompanied by classroom sessions and additional field exercises.
While rail is one of the safest ways to transport hazardous chemicals, it’s extremely important to be prepared in the rare instance that a disaster occurs. A chemical leak in a railcar's valve or fitting connection can be hazardous, not only to rail personnel, but to the environment and the residents of surrounding communities. Using more than 50 years of real-world experience, Midland has engineered the industry’s most complete solution for first responders.
Midland's B-243 Emergency Response Kit (ERK) has been designed to allow for the quick and safe capping of leaking fittings and valves on the top of pressurized railcars in the event of a chemical leak.
The ERK features five different cover cans with gaskets that cap leaking valves or fittings, a complete set of industrial-strength tools that are required to apply cover cans, and a bridge that’s needed to secure cover cans to the manway’s cover plate.
It’s often been said that “failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” And when the stakes are this high, failure is not an option.
